Snorkelling is sport in its own right and forming a dedicated snorkelling branch, or starting up a snorkelling section within an existing BSAC branch, is very easy and hassle-free.

Having such groups allows both younger people and adults to benefit from the BSAC snorkel training programme delivered by qualified instructors, while enjoying the social company of other keen snorkellers.  The branch can organise snorkelling trips to local sites and to overseas resorts so increasing the experience of its members.
