Advanced Snorkel Instructor Training Course (ASITC)

Programme & Syllabus

AIM
To teach candidates how to teach advanced snorkelling activities in open water. The programme concludes with an assessment of Theory Lesson presentation skills and open water snorkelling instructional ability.

DURATION
Two days.

ENTRY GRADE
This event is open to BSAC Open Water Snorkel Instructors or equivalent, who are BSAC members and wish to become qualified to teach advanced snorkelling techniques. Candidates should also be qualified as BSAC Snorkel Dive Marshal and hold the Advanced Snorkel Lifesaver Award (or Advanced Lifesaver Award).

INSTRUCTORS
This course must be lead by an approved Advanced Snorkel Instructor Trainer. Additional instructors must also be approved instructor trainers. Assistant instructors may attend the course in order to gain their instructor approval for this level.

Ratio - One instructor to every twelve students for theory sessions. This ratio will need to be reduced to 1:3 for practical open water sessions.

FACILITIES
A suitable classroom for the theory lessons with teaching aids. An open water location with access to shallow and deeper water for the practical sessions.

APPROVAL
Approval by the Snorkel Chief Examiner must be obtained through HQ.

QUALIFICATION
This course concludes with a practical, classroom and a theory assessment. Those students who are successful at all three elements will receive the BSAC Advanced Snorkel Instructor Award, an Advanced Snorkel Instructor number, A4 Certificate, cloth badge and a certificate for their qualification record book. An ASI is able to teach all levels of snorkelling up to the BSAC Dive Marshal Award.
